How does a roof insurance claim work in Texas?

Most roof claims in North Texas follow the same path. Here is how it goes, and where we step in to help:

1Free inspection. We climb the roof and document hail or wind damage with photos, so you know whether you actually have a claim before you call your insurer.

2File the claim. You contact your insurance company and report the date of loss (the day the storm hit). They assign a claim number and schedule an adjuster.

3Adjuster meeting. We meet your adjuster on the roof and walk the damage together, so nothing legitimate gets missed or left off the estimate.

4Scope and payment. Your insurer approves a scope of work and issues the first payment (the actual cash value, minus your deductible). We help you understand it.

5We do the work. We complete the approved roofing work, then submit final documentation so your insurer releases the rest (the recoverable depreciation). You pay only your deductible out of pocket.

Do I really need a contractor for my claim?

You can file on your own, but homeowners who go it alone often leave money on the table or get a claim underpaid. Adjusters see hundreds of roofs and can miss damage, and the estimate they write is only as complete as what gets documented on that visit. Having an experienced roofer on the roof with your adjuster is the single best way to make sure the full scope of your storm damage is captured, the first time.

What we handle, and what stays with you

We handle the roofing side: the inspection, the documentation, meeting the adjuster, the scope, the work, and the final paperwork. You stay in control of your policy: you file the claim, you communicate with your insurer, and you pay your deductible. We are not a public adjuster and we do not negotiate your policy for you. We make sure the roof damage is fully and fairly documented, and then we do the work right.

Common claim problems, and how we fix them

Claim denied. Denials happen, and they are often reversible. We re-inspect, document what was missed, and request a re-inspection with your adjuster.

Claim underpaid. If the estimate missed damage or line items, we document the gap so it can be corrected before the work starts.

Missed damage. Hail damage to vents, gutters, flashing, and soft metals is easy to overlook. We make sure it is all on the estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to file a roof claim in Texas?
Most Texas policies require you to file within a set window after the date of loss, often one year, but sometimes shorter. Check your policy and file as soon as you can. The longer you wait, the harder damage is to prove.

What is the difference between ACV and RCV?
Actual cash value (ACV) is the depreciated value your insurer pays first. Replacement cost value (RCV) is the full cost to replace the roof. On an RCV policy, you get the depreciation back (recoverable depreciation) after the work is completed and documented. We handle that final paperwork so you receive it.

Will filing a claim raise my rates?
Hail and wind are acts of nature, not driver-fault claims, and Texas insurers generally cannot single you out for a rate increase for a weather-related claim. Rates can move region-wide after major storms regardless of whether you file.

Do you work directly with my insurance adjuster?
Yes. We meet your adjuster on-site and walk the damage together, which is the best way to make sure the full, legitimate scope is captured. We do not negotiate your policy for you; we document the roof so it is represented accurately.

What will I pay out of pocket?
On a covered claim, usually just your deductible. Anything outside the claim can be financed.
